Police inspector hits the road

Tasman District's new road policing boss will be taking to the roads on her Harley Davidson.

One of Inspector Jenni Richardson's first tasks is getting to know her new district.

Inspector Richardson says the district has an unenviable record for the country's highest number of fatal motorbike accidents.

She says riding around on her own bike will be a perfect way to show people she's serious about road safety.

"I know that the Tasman District have had some problems in the past with fatalities around motorcycles and I'm looking at introducing another 100 day campaign," she told Newstalk ZB. "I have a vested interested in keeping the road safe."
