American Honda announced the release of four updated models, three of which take aim squarely at the market dominated by Harley-Davidson with the fourth an every day machine outfitted for touring duty.

The Stateline and Sabre are nearly identical heavyweight cruisers, mostly distinguished by styling cues. Both are powered by Hondas 1312cc liquid-cooled 52° V-twins with an undersquare bore and stroke of 89.5mm x 104.3mm. The engines have a single overhead cam, with three valves per cylinder and programmable fuel injection through one 38mm throttle body. The five-speed transmission feeds a shaft drive.

Both have 41mm forks with 4.0 inches of travel and a single rear shock with 3.9 inches of travel.

One difference is the wheels. The Sabre has a 21-inch front wheel and 170/80-15 rear wheel each carry a single disc, 336mm, with twin calipers in the front, and 296mm with a single caliper in the back.

The long, low Sabre, available in Ultra Metallic Blue, has a wheelbase and a seat height of 26.9 inches. The fuel tank holds 4.4 gallons. It adds up to a curb weight of 659 pounds. The MSRP is $11,899, $100 more than the Stateline.

The Stateline, seen below in Metallic Silver, has a slightly longer wheelbase, 70.3 inches, with a 17-inch front tire and 170/80-15 rear tire. The seat height is 26.8 inches. The curb weight is 672 pounds.

Stylistically, the Stateline has deeply valanced fenders that suggest a class retro style. It also has a blacked-out engine and wider, more pulled back handlebars. The Sabre handlebars are more forward leaning, with more modern fenders that show more of the five-spoke wheels.

The Shadow Aero returns in 2011 with its classic retro styling, low seat height, and V-twin engine in an affordable package.

The slightly oversquare-79 mm x 76mm-SOHC, three-valve, 745cc liquid-cooled, 52 degree V-twin is now fed throughby progammed fuel injection through one 34mm throttle body. A five-speed transmission connects to a shaft drive, which powers a 160/80-15 rear tire.

The 41mm front forks provide 4.6 inches of travel, while the dual rear shocks, with five-position spring preload adjustability, offer 3.5 inches. Up front is a single 296mm disc with twin calipers, while out back there's a 180mm drum. The wheelbase is 64.5 inches and the seat height is 25.9 inches.

The fuel tank holds 3.7 gallons of fuel, including a 0.9-gallon reserve. The package adds up to a curb weight of 553 pounds and has an MSRP of $7999.

The NT700VA ABS is a lighter, sportier touring bike that Honda also believes works well as a commuter. With ABS technology, the DOHC, four-valve, liquid-cooled, 52 degree 680cc V-twin has progammed fuel injection and 40mm throttle bodies with 12-hole injectors.

The final shaft drive is linked to a five speed transmission. It rides on 41mm forks, with 4.5 inches of travel, and a single rear shock with 4.8 inches of travel. Dual 296mm discs, with three-piston calipers, provide the stopping power up front, with a single, twin-piston caliper 276mm rear disc. The tires are 17 inches, front and rear, a: 120/70 ZR17 radial front and a 150/70 ZR17 radial rear.

The wheelbase is 58.1 inches and the seat height 31.7 inches. It adds up to a 571 for the NT700VA ABS.

The 5.2 gallons fuel capacity, with a 0.9 gallon reserve, should give plenty of range with a claimed 49 mpg fuel capacity.

New for 2011 is that the NT700V will only be offered as an ABS model and now in Rich Pearl Black.
